Various professions including lawyers and mediators are governed by ethical rules. Some profession's rules, such as in the case of lawyers, are mandatory . Additionally you must be licensed member of the Oregon State Bar to practice law in Oregon. The professional rules of the Oregon State Bar govern how and when lawyers can represent clients in court. You can review these rules on their website. I have also attached a copy to this reply.

With regard to professional mediators a good source of information is the Oregon Mediation Association. On their webpage they have their own ethics rules as well as links to other rules that apply to various ways to mediators.
